Jess Black does not need traditional fabric to make an entrance. From the first image she is posed on the terracotta tiles with nothing but an elaborate rhinestone body chain between herself and the sun, the gold links and crystal flower clusters catching the light in every direction at once as she tips her face back with eyes closed in something that looks very much like bliss. The Diamonds of the title are not on her finger or her ears; they are draped across her body like armour, like jewellery, like art. The garden behind her, all deep green and warm stone, could not be a more perfect backdrop.
As the set moves through its sixty images, Jess shifts position and pose, the crystal chain changing configuration but never leaving her body entirely. In the final frame she kneels beside the pool, the central strand of rhinestone clusters catching the afternoon light against her bronzed skin, and the trees beyond have deepened to a rich amber-green. She looks directly into the lens with dark, heavy-lidded eyes, the jewels glittering between the soft shadows of her form, and it is absolutely clear that Jess Black knows exactly how to wear diamonds.
